Nov. 7 - 10
In writing this week, we all wrote a fictional narratives based off a picture of a lost cat. We tried to use figurative language, imagination, elements of a story and our senses. After we wrote our stories, we edited and revised. Then we went through our own writing looking for evidence of figurative language, senses, character description, setting and our favourite sentence. We also created haikus about Remembrance Day to show that we remember the soldiers who have passed away.
In math we learned about factors and arrays using tiles. Factors are numbers that can be multiplied together to make a target number. For example, the factors of 12 are 4,3,1,12 2 and 6. We practiced some multiplication and division.
In art we used pastels to create close up poppies inspired by Georgia O'keefe. We used our poppies to decorate for the Remembrance Day assembly.
In science the grade 5's we learned about the 4 main types of precipitation. They are rain, sleet, snow and hail. The grade 6's learned about tree cookies and how we can see the evidence of what has happened to the tree over its life time. For example, fire, slope, drought, infestation and optimal conditions.
In social studies the grade 6's continued to study the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. We explained the different kinds of writes in a Google document. Grade 5's worked on making a map of Canada and marking important places such as Hudson Bay and the terrirories.
