Nov. 14-18
This week was our Fall Showcase. It was about the 4 seasons. We played a song with xylephones, glockenspeils, boom whackers, hand bells and resonator bells. We also sang 2 songs. We made a tall fall tree as a prop for the show. It was fun and a little nerve wracking.
In writing we worked on 'great beginnings' for our stories. We discussed 4 great ways to start. They are, action, ask a question, describe the setting or describe a characater. We continuted writing about the best day of our lives.
In math we have been learning how multiply large numbers. We practiced 3 different methods. These methods were, box method, lattice method and the standard algorithm. Next week we will get to choose our preferred method to solve multiplication questions. We have also been working on basic multiplication facts up to 9x9.
In science the grade 5's learned about what fabrics are best for the weather elements such as wind, rain and cold. We discovered that nylon was the best for rain and wool was the best for cold. We also did an escape room about the seasons. The grade 6's are researching about 1 coniferous and 1 deciduous tree that is found in Alberta.
In social studies the grade 6's continued to learn about our rights and freedoms. We were also learning about provincial governments and what they do to help. The grade 5's learned about bodies of water and provicial capitals in Canada.
In French we started learing about food. We listened to 2 songs (they are in Google Classroom).
