Feb. 21- 24
This week in gym we got to do lacrosse for 2 gym classes. The person who was teaching us was a player from the Roughnecks. We learned how to scoop up the ball, throw and catch. It was fun!
We had a field trip to the Saddledome on Wednesday. It was the Hitmen vs. the Winnipeg Ice hockey game (the Hitmen lost :( ). It was for Pink Shirt Day which is a bullying awareness day. Most schools that went wore pink shirts. We did a dance to Katy Perry's song "Roar". We all got Mike Vernon bobble heads.
In writing we are working on our Wonderopolis projects. We are reasearching a topic and answering questions about that topic by taking jot notes. We are then going to turn our jot notes into paragraphs for our Wonderopolis pages.
In science the grade 6's made star maps. We shared the constellation stories that we researched (both the Indigenous and Greek stories). The grade 5's learned more about chemical reactions and the periodic table of elements.
In social studies the grade 5's started the fur trading game. Half of the class are travelling merchants and the other half are Indigenous people. We roll a die to get cards that tell us what supplies we get. We trade for 5 minutes. If we didn't get rid of all of our stuff, we trade for another 5 minutes. The grade 6's are drawing and writing the different responsibilities of the municipal government.
In math we learned about ratios and turning fractions into percentages. We learned about proportion and rate.
In music we are practicing remembering all the notes on the staff. We are starting recorders soon.
