This week in art we did leaf prints. We went outside and picked fresh leaves off the grass. Then we came in and we painted white paint on the leaves and made prints on black paper. Then we used sponges and red, orange and yellow paint for the backgrounds.
In gym we started inline skating. It was very fun. We will do it again on Wednesday and Friday next week.
We read a chapter in a book called Braiding Sweetgrass. We are learning to look at things with heart, mind, spirit and body (from the medicine wheel). We drew the medicine wheel in our visual journals. Next week we will take our journals to a park to practice embracing nature in this way.
In writing we continued with our personal narratives. Some of us acted out our stories. We used juicy words to describe our stories to make it sound emotional, deep and relatable.
In math we learned how to round decimals and whole numbers. We sang a song called "We Will Round You " (it is in Google Classroom). On Friday we played a card game called Last Chance.
In social studies the grade 5's are trying to survive a zombie apocolypse. We have to use Canada's natural resources to our advantage. We each have a region of Canada. The grade 6's learned about rights and responsibilities.
In science, the grade 5's learned about the water cycle. The grade 6's worked on the Nutrient Web project.
In music we talked about doing a Fall Showcase in November. We will be singing and playing instruments. The theme of the Showcase is the 4 seasons.
